Biking, swimming, golfing

Sports and relaxation in Seignosse

Of course, surfing always comes first here in the region. But even without – or besides surfing – there are a lot of interesting things to do or discover.

  • Biking

The perfectly developed network of bike paths invites you to exciting tours even in high summer. Next to the main roads is mostly a two-lane bike path, well shaded by pine trees. You can rent one of our e-bikes and go exploring: to the Étang Blanc, shopping in the outlets (carrier available!!!) or to Hossegor for ice cream.

  • Skating

Directly at our place in the district “Le Penon” a new skatepark has been built last year. Skating is very popular with surfers and in many small towns in the area modern skate facilities have been built in recent years: Capbreton, Saubion, Bennesse Maremmne, …

  • Adrenalin kick super slides

In addition to the “normal” slides, the Atlantic Park Aquapark in “Le Penon” has the ultimate thrill to offer: several super slides catapult you to acrobatic heights and you can make an elegant exit into the pool – even with a BMX bike if you dare. By reservation only.

  • Bouldern

The Roof Pays Basque is a modern bouldering hall in Bayonne. Appointments can be booked online, individually or for groups. Bayonne is about 30 minutes away by car, the public bus takes 45 minutes from Seignosse.

  • Crossfit

So that even on vacation no training sessions are missed: The nearest CrossFit Center is located in Seignosse Bourg, another one in Capbreton.

  • Hiking

Many hiking trails run through the light-flooded pine forests in the “Landes”. The Pyrenean town of “St. Jean Pied de Port”, the hub of the Way of St. James, is also not far away. Many a hiker has made a stop at the Atlantic Ocean at the end of his tour and enjoyed a few days of rest and relaxation in the surf villa.

  • Golf

Not only Kelly Slater likes it as a balance to surfing: in Seignosse there is a 70-hectare golf course with an 18-hole course surrounded by pine trees and cork oaks. Built in 1989, the course with water hazards was voted the best golf course in France by English experts!

Tapas, partying and strolling in the area of Seignosse

Excursion destinations nearby

The entire region still has a lot of interesting things to offer for a day trip: Eating tapas in San Sebastian, strolling at the “Grand Plage” in Biarritz, sundowner at the “Côte Basque”, wine tasting and exhibitions in Bordeaux. There are also worthwhile destinations in the immediate vicinity: Jam sessions in the bars of Hossegor, various surf contests and of course the big events: Fêtes de la Musique and Fête de Bayonne.

  • Right on the doorstep - Seignosse

In a few minutes from the surf villa you can reach the small village center of Seignosse le Penon. Here you can find the most necessary things: ATM, two small supermarkets, boutiques, bars, restaurants, cafes, skate park, aqua park. A large market is held two or three times a week. Producers from the region offer a wide culinary variety of typical local specialties. Goat cheese, olives, saucisse, ham from Bayonne, pastis, Vin de Landes, Gateau Basques…just to name a few. In addition, there are fruits, vegetables, jewelry, clothing, toys, food trucks and much more. It’s worth a visit! At sunset, we often meet in one of the beach bars.

  • Surf town Hossegor

Hossegor is only about 5km away and can be reached quickly by e-bike at any time – or with a long walk along the beach. During the day you can simply stroll, store, eat extremely delicious ice cream or indulge in the tempting offer of the patisseries. On Sunday and Wednesday mornings a weekly market is held with a colorful offer. Everything from carpets to jewelry, clothing, household goods, etc. is offered here. In the evening the many bars are open. In addition, in the high season there is a weekly evening program with small concerts and events. The various surf contests and in August the large salsa festival “Latinossegor” also always attract a large audience.

  • Biarritz

From Seignosse towards the south, the coastal formation changes: the seemingly endless sandy beach slowly turns into the famous cliff, the Côte Basque. Picturesquely embedded in this rock formation is Biarritz. The once fashionable seaside resort today combines French chic with casual surfer culture. With its 50-year surfing history, Biarritz is considered the birthplace of surfing in France. From the lighthouse you have a breathtaking view of the cliffs and the stately buildings that dominate the cityscape. Over a kind of bridge you can venture over the surf on the offshore rocks, the “Chambre d’Amour”. The city center pulsates with life, especially in the evening. Countless restaurants and bars surround the modern market hall. Beforehand, be sure to have a sundowner with lounge music on the “balcony” on the Côte Basque.

  • Tapas and Sangria in San Sebastian (Spain)

The city, where once only the Spanish high nobility spent their summer vacations, is today also called the Rio of Spain. It is worth the climb up the city mountain “Monte Urgull”. From here you have an impressive view of the city, the city beach “La Concha” and the surf beach “Zurriola”.  In the evening, you can eat your way through the tapas bars of the winding old town, which offer an exuberant range of the most delicious tapas and raciones. In addition, you should definitely enjoy a sangria (usually freshly mixed) or Kalimotxo (red wine with cola, delicious!). At the harbor, typical restaurants serve freshly caught fish and seafood in a maritime atmosphere. Special highlight: Semana Grande. A week-long fireworks contest of nations. Can be admired from the beach directly above La Concha Bay. (August)

  • Wine and culture capital Bordeaux

Bordeaux is now famous not only for its wines. Great exhibitions and festivals attract numerous visitors. The cityscape has changed greatly in recent years. The Garonne flows through Bordeaux, later merging with the Dordogne to form the mighty La Gironde estuary. The tides can be felt all the way into the city. On the riverbank, walkers, skaters, cyclists, children have a large area to themselves. Here it is wonderful to stroll. Small side trips to the extremely well-preserved old town on the opposite side provide variety. The 1.2km long, famous shopping street “Rue Catherine”, has now been completely converted into a pedestrian zone. Today’s cityscape of Bordeaux is particularly interesting: historical buildings and modern architectural art exist almost harmoniously side by side. Great exhibitions, such as the “Bassins des Lumières” in the old submarine facilities, are definitely worth a visit!
